The Story of The Paarsborst

And one day, a dream came true.

“Herman I bring you the Paarsborst and you can try breeding some youngsters from him. I could breed some youngsters of him this year, but he fertilizes only a few eggs, you have the space and you can try as you wish. I also bring you a daughter of the 080 and you can also breed a season from her.”

That was the message I received at the end of 2013 from Daan Besseling.

A few days later Daan arrived with the pigeons and he said that he just bred a couple of youngsters from the Paarsborst. “I think I pair the couple you just brought me and we will see what will happen” I told Daan and so I did. 10 days later a couple of eggs and some 5 days later I could see they were fertilized, but would everything go fine…? Two very late blew female youngsters were the result of this first experiment ( 6024691/2013 and 6024692/2013 ) but it was almost the end of November and I had to separate the pigeons due to the moulting period and the time to prepare them for the next breeding season.

In January 2014, I paired the Paarsborst to a sister of “Nina” 5e nat. Bordeaux at Jaap van de Graaff. (Arnemuiden). The first eggs were not fertilized and I gave the couple one youngster from another breeding pair to take care about. The second eggs, 1 egg was fertilized and the result was a nice checkered hen 6173000/2014 (the last ring of my series of numbers of 2015).

The third pair of eggs were both fertilized and resulted in two dark youngsters (6172999/2014 and 6172998/2014, both cocks) again the two last rings of my series of numbers). The forth pair of eggs were not fertilized and again they got a youngster from another couple to take care about. The fifth pair resulted again in two dark youngsters and you can imagine their ring numbers : 6172997/2014 (cock) and 6172996/2014 (hen). Then I paired the Paarsborst to another hen : grandson Witbuik Batenburg X sister Narbonnekes Verhellen. One dark youngster was the result and as we were already late in the year the ring number was 6172993/2014. Can you believe it? I bread 2 + 6 youngsters from the Paarsborst….

You don’t believe it…? He was in a breeding box of 2×1 meter alone with his hen… and to convince the non believers… I went to BIFS (Dr. Van de Sande) for DNA confirmation for all the mentioned ring numbers. At the end of 2014 I asked Daan Besseling if it was possible I could acquire the Paarsborst…and he agreed. The day he brought the original “Ko van Dommelen” pedigree with the “passport” was one of the happiest days of my live….because that day a dream came true… I became the owner of the Paarsborst.

On December 19th, 2014, I was examining the Paarsborst, I put him in a basket to show him to some friends, and 5 minutes later, when I wanted to take him out of the basket he was already death, probably by a hart-attack. There were only a few near friends who knew the Paarsborst was at our breeding loft and it took me more then 6 months before I dare to tell them. That was really a sad day. On the other hand…the lost of the phenomenon Paarsborst was the reason I started to search for another crack which resulted in the acquirement of “New Witbuik’, 1th national Barcelona 2012.
